Restaurant Summary by Allan Borgen:

Located on Mountain Ave behind Carrows Restaurant in Chino is a neat Italian restaurant called Cannataro’s. As soon as you enter, the spirit of Italy overwhelms your senses. The cozy booths that line the restaurant along with the grape vines hanging from the trellis’s on the ceiling is the perfect setting for their delicious food that awaits you.

The menu features a large variety of traditional as well as original Italian dishes and pizzas that are from owner Julie Yanni-Cannataro, who grew up working in her parent’s Italian restaurant where she learned all her families’ recipes from Calabria, Italy.

When I dine here which is quite often, I always start with the simple yet delicious Wedding Soup, a perfectly seasoned chicken stock with onions, carrots, celery, spinach, chicken, tiny meatballs and slightly thickened with a parmesan egg mixture. Talk about one terrific soup!

Other items I enjoy include the Pesto Chicken Pizza, a thin crust pizza with a bold and robust pesto sauce, pieces of chicken breast, fresh garlic, mozzarella and ricotta cheese, the lovely Salmon Piccata, a 8oz. salmon filet sautéed with butter, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, capers and white wine and served with sides of pasta and fresh veggies and the Steak Arrabbiata, 3 fairly pieces of steak sautéed in a spicy garlic wine sauce served with a side of linguini marinara.

For those of you who love pasta, you must get the multi layered lasagna with marinara, ground beef, a delicious fennel laden Italian Sausage and lots of  ricotta and mozzarella cheese. This is one of the best renditions of lasagna you will find anywhere and something I highly recommend.

If you still have room for dessert, the unique and stunning Fruit Pizza with a sugar cookie crust topped with sweet cream, fresh slices of kiwi, strawberries, bananas and finished with crushed pineapple all incased in a sweet glace and whipped cream is certainly my pick for the perfect ending to a most enjoyable dining experience.

Cannataro’s also does an outstanding  job at catering everything from small parties to weddings while the prices are very reasonable and the portions are like most Italian restaurants, fairly large. See you there!
