Restaurant Summary by Allan Borgen:
Nothing fancy about this long and narrow pizzeria/sports bar restaurant. We’re talking large black and white tile flooring, plain wooden tables, a long bar, some games and flat screen televisions to entertain guests. While the outside and interior are ordinary, the food at the Pizza Barn in La Verne is sublime. One thing you should know about the Pizza Barn is that the portions are always large, nicely presented and well worth the price.
Let’s start with three power packed sandwiches; the Barn Submarine $4.75 to $8.25 which consists of smoked ham, Italian salami, mortadella, Provolone, Swiss & Mozzarella cheeses, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes and Italian dressing. I really enjoyed the fresh and tasty meats and enjoyed the fresh, crisp French roll.
Next came the Philly Steak & Cheese Grinder with thin slices of Rib Eye steak, sautéed onions and mushrooms and tomatoes with a creamy Provolone and American cheese sauce made on the premises and served on a toasted French roll. This one hit the spot.
You must try the specialty “Mario’s Ultimate,” a larger than life sandwich looking more like a pizza which starts atop a freshly baked round thin bread topped with olive oil, oregano and sesame seeds. The sandwich is filled with roast beef, turkey, Swiss, Mozzarella & Provolone cheeses, avocado, pickles, tomatoes, lettuce, Italian dressing and onions (on request). I’m telling you folks; this is going to be your new favorite sandwich. The thin, hot and semi crisp cracker textured bread is outstanding.
On the Pasta side of the menu came the Lasagna, a nice portion of layered pasta sheets with ricotta, mozzarella, meatballs, Italian sausage and a bold and assertive tomato sauce with a hint of cinnamon, which adds an interesting overtone to this classic Italian favorite.
Now let’s talk pizzas! You can create your own custom pizzas or order one of their specialty Pizzas like the zesty “Mexican Pizza” with taco seasoned beef, tomato sauce, onions, refried beans, olives, sliced jalapenos, mozzarella and cheddar cheese which was my pick and a mighty fine one; spicy and unique.
Offering Happy Hours Daily, with 9 Draft beers on tap and delicious, affordable food, I highly suggest you come on down and treat yourself to a real hidden culinary gem.
